President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Mass Housing plan under his big four agenda came under sharp scrutiny about a month ago during the 2019 East Africa Property investment Summit – a real estate event bringing together Experts and various other stakeholders involved in development of real estate sector across the Africa continent and the rest of the world- which was held at a Nairobi Hotel.
Development Economist Ms. Anzetse Were while making her remarks on how government can significantly cut the cost of buying land to fulfill it’s housing plan said; “….The Government must merge its mass housing aspirations with the cultural realities that is unique among kenyans…. Kenyans do not want permanent homes in the urban areas…. most Kenyans want permanent houses (boma/dala – kiswahili/luo for traditional homestead) in the rural ancestral homes….where they either own the land or where the cost of land is significantly lower…”
This was in response to a breakaway session under the byline…. The Big Question? Reducing the Cost of Housing Through the Different value Chains
