Patrick Mutua Crowned Master of Diageo Kenya World Class competition

Patrick Mutua from Kempinski hotel was yesterday evening crowned the winner of the Diageo Kenya World Class competition; one of the industry’s most prestigious and respected mixology competitions worldwide. He will be representing Kenya in the international competition that will take place in Berlin, Germany in October 2018.

A website that will outline to Kenyans the contents of all government contracts signed by it under a public private arrangement with private institutions and companies, the progress of projects and the expected timelines, the winning bidder and any material changes to the contract.

Seen as an efforts to address the rising cases of corruption in procurement and the overpricing of contracts values a practice contributing to significant losses in government revenue.

Some of the projects revealed in this portal include Construction of the 2nd Nyali Bridge which has been procured by the Kenyan Urban Roads Authority, Mombasa- Nairobi Dual Carriage Way Toll Road Project ( Kenya National Highways Authority), The Mombasa Port Development Project by the Kenya Ports Authority, Kisumu Sea Port by the Kenya Ports Authority, Government Flying School by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority, The University of Nairobi Hostel construction, the National Cancer Management Centre and the Construction of a National Data Centre by the Ministry of ICT

WOMEN GREATEST BENEFICIARIES OF HEVA FUND

HEVA Fund an East Africa fund aimed at funding creative enterpreneurs involved in organizing live music events, design and fashion, manufacturing and retail, film creation and the development of gaming software late this week signed an agreement with the Agence française de développement a french financing agency that will see the fund receive up to Ksh90 million from the institution to offer financial support to established businesses based in Kenya- Albeit those with a minimum of 5 permanent members of staff and with annual income below Ksh50 million – and technical support (financial modelling) to business within the larger east Africa region.

Speaking at the signing event ceremony held in the lush gardens of its office based in Kileleshwa Nairobi, HEVA’s finance manager Ms Maureen Njuguna expressed confidence saying that they hope grow the fund and disburse upto Ksh 0.5 Billion in the next few years.

Present at the event was founder and Creative director of PEPERUKA limited who benefited from a USD5000 loan from the institution.

A proposal which may soon see Kenyans Charged at tax of up to 20% on gambling winnings is among the items on discussion in the Kenyan parliament.

Speaking at a tax forum organized by the Kenya Revenue Authority and held at a Nairobi Hotel earlier today, Mr Maurice Oray a commissioner with the institution said; “…. the proposal will also see the creation of a special fund where the tax collected from these revenue streams will be channeled in supporting development of sports, arts and cultural initiatives in the country…”

Cytonn To Provide TIVET Courses

Cytonn an investment company that has major stake in Kenya’s property investment market earlier this morning launched the Cytonn College of  Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The college will offer courses currently provided by the TIVET – Technical and Vocational Education Training Institutions  and is in the process of recruiting 64 lecturers for the endeavour. Trade Agency Helps Ease Africa’s Debt Burden

The Africa Trade Insurance Agency;  regional body mostly concerned with provision of insurance cover to lending institutions doing business with African Governments, early this morning announced its continued intention to provide cheaper avenues for African Governments seeking to obtain foreign debt through the syndicated loans and the International bond market; avenues which for the moment account for 60 percent of the regions debt.

Alluding to the regions thirst for solutions to the problems bedeviling it the Agency’s chief executive Mr George Otieno expressed confidence that in future the agency would be the go to place for African governments wishing to raise capital for development expenditure.

This he confirmed would be made possible with the sustained growth which has remained high over the last 6 years. The agency posted a 55% increase in profits in the year 2017 and has since its inception in the year 2001 supported business in the region to the tune of US dollars 35 Billion.
